E STEY & CO. employ only the most skillful workmen
in every department, use only the best anti most
carefully selected material, and perform with the un¬
failing precision of intricate machinery much of the work
which is elsewhere done by hand. Accomplished inventors
arc continually on the lookout for any possible addition to
or improvement in the machinery, and new devices arc
being constantly tried and accented. No expense or en¬
couragement is spared to attain the acme of mechanical in¬
genuity. In view of these facts, when it is considered that
it takes six weeks to perfect a reed, that sixty trained men
and women are constantly employed as tuners, in separate
apartments, and that the same care is bestowed upon every
part before it is sent out as completed, it is not difficult to
appreciate the manifest superiority of the Rstby Okgan.
Furthermore, it must be conceded that the leading im¬
provements in Rccd Organs ol other manufacture have
been, without exception, originated, perfected and intro-
i duced by Messrs. Estey & Co. Their instruments are
simply unrivaled in America or Europe. Scientific men.
inventors and manufacturers from all parts of the world
have visited their establishment, and unanimously pro¬
nounce it unsurpassed for comprehensiveness and perfec¬
tion of separate detail and general system. To this judg¬
ment is added the highest testimony from every part of
this country and Europe to the exalted merits of the Estey
Organ. Such testimony, coming from all quarters, is a
test of value and approval which cannot be gainsaid. It is
the voice ot culture and refinement bearing proud witness
to that truism, as old as human endeavor and human frui¬
tion, that only true merit achieves true success.

IMPROVEMENTS

i

CONTAINED IN THE ESTEY ORGAN.

Tub Ptmr.ic ^i.w rrly upon tiie fact, that* as fast as

REAL IMPROVEMENTS CAN BE PERFECTED, THEY WU L BK IN¬
TRODUCED in the Estey Organ.

Among the many important improvements already adopt¬
ed in these celebrated instruments, particular attention is
is directed to the following:

The Patent Vos Humana,

This wonderful invention was perfected and brought out
m the Estey Organ In 1865. It consists of a. revolving fan,
placed just back of the reeds, which, when set in motion by
the appropriate stop, imparts to the tone a thrilling, wave¬
like effect, hitherto unknown in instrumental music. The
! control of this great invention was at once Secured by Let¬
ters Patent, and its introduction was the signal for sincere
congratulations on every hand. The best proof of its posi¬
tive value and wide appreciation is found in the fact that,
after a test of years, no organ is considered at all complete
without the Vo.v Humana attachment. Its instantaneous j
success led other manufacturers to adopt various devices to
produce the same effect by wholly unreliable and inade¬
quate means. These were invariably only revivals of that
old, worn-out idea, the u Valve,” or “ Clapper,” or u Cut¬
off” Tremulant, and resulted in more or less complete fail¬
ures. Purchasers of Organs should place no faith in the
! statements of interested parties, who claim for their so-
called Tremolos the exquisite effect produced by the Estey
Vox Humana.

It is undeniably the first a.nu only mechanical repro¬
duction OF THE HUMAN VOICE EVER GIVEN TO THE WORLD.

The Patent Vos Jubilante.

This is a new and beautiful stop peculiar to the Estey
Organs. The character of its tone is marked and wonder¬
fully effective, and admits of a very desirable style of music
in reed instruments.

J. ESTEY & COM PA NY’S

The Patent Harmonic Attachment.

This is an Octave-Coupler used on a single Manual, which
doubles the power of the instrument without necessitating
an increase in the size or number of reeds.

The Patent Manual Sub-Bass.

The manner in which these reeds are placed on the air-
chamber increases the volume of tone at least one-third.

The Patent Knee-Swell.

This Swell gives the player complete control of the in¬
strument, and produces a perfect crescendo or diminuendo.

The Patent Organ Bellows.

This invention greatly enhances the power and quality of
the tone, without increasing the size of the instrument.

The Patent Reed-Board.

This Reed-board gives the Estey Organ a vastly im¬
proved tone, making it much more like a pipe organ than
any other in the market. It is an improvement of inesti¬
mable importance, and is covered by four patents.

The Patent Violetta.

i

This’is a Solo Stop of great beauty, indispensable when
an unusually soft and sweet tone is required to give proper
expression to the music.

The Patent Reeds.

A number of very great improvements in Reeds has been
perfected by Messrs. Estey 3c Co., which are readily dis-
cernable in the power, variety and beauty of tone charac¬
terising their Organs,

Improved Tone.

It is pre-eminently the quality of tone that places the
Estey Organ in advance of all others. It is a Reed Organ
possessing the invaluable desideratum of a pipe-like tone ,
which is round, full and powerful, and yet capable of the
most delicate articulation and shades of feeling. There is
the same difference between the Reeds of the Estey Organ
and those of other makers, that there is between a cultiva¬
ted and an uncultivated human voice.

Is situated on BIRGE STREET, in the beautiful Village
of BRATTLEBORO,VERMONT. They consist of Eight
Main Factories, forty feet apart, one hundred feet long,
and three stories high, and varying from thirty to thirty-
eight feet in width, according to the work to be done in
them.

The Dry Houses are in the rear, and are two iu number,
divided into various apartments, and of sufficient capacity
to hold several hundred thousand feet of lumber, enough
to ensure an ample supply of well-seasoned material at all
times.

In the rear of Factory No. 4, is a Fire-Proof Engine
and Boiler House, containing six large boilers, of three
hundred horse power, furnishing steam for the engine and
heat for the buildings. The Engine is of tlic celebrated
Corliss patent, and of one hundred horse-power.

The Packing, Store and Gas Houses, and several other
buildings for the use of and connected with the establish¬
ment, arc situated about the works at convenient distances
and form altogether the most complete system yet devised.

Everything within the reach of skill and capital has been
done to secure the comfort, convenience and health of the
workmen, and the safety, perfection, and economical work¬
ing of the establishment.

Other improvements are being made, and buildings
erected,.to carry out the grand scheme projected by Messrs.
Kstey & Co., in order that they may be able to furnish or¬
gans in sufficient numbers to meet the pressing public de¬
mand.

The Estey Organ Manufactory is now the most exten¬
sive in the world, and gives constant employment to more
than five hundred workmen. No other organ has gained
unequal popularity, or been produced on such an extensive
scale. Step by step, Messrs. Estey & Co. have advanced
in the rapid march of progress, until it may be truly said
that

The Estey Organ Leads the World I
